INSTALLATION TIPS

There's nothing more comforting than knowing that the installation is safe and efficient.

USE A PROFESSIONAL

Make it a priority to hire a knowledgeable, experienced professional who will do the job right the first time. Also, all participating professional installers will install your new natural gas outdoor products. Washington Gas requires these trade associates to sign agreements that verify that they have met applicable licensing, insurance, bonding requirements and maintain a qualified installation staff.

PRODUCT CODE ISSUES

Some gas-fired products sold and used in the U.S. are covered by a variety of certification standards, building codes, and local requirements. For additional code/permit information, please contact your local code authority in Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia.

PERMIT REQUIREMENTS

Adding a natural gas product to your home requires a permit. Your outdoor product dealer or installer should provide you with information regarding the necessary permits. All installations should be inspected by the jurisdiction (county/city) that issued the installation permit.

INSTALLING A SPLIT METER

The existing gas piping in your house may not be able to handle the additional load of a new gas outdoor product. If this is the case, your installer may recommend a split meter installation. There is a charge to "split" the meter, but that charge may be offset by the labor savings that result from the use of 2PSI piping for the new installation.

PERMANENT OR PORTABLE INSTALLATION

The most common method is buried pipe to bring natural gas from the closest existing gas line to the permanently installed outdoor gas products.

For outdoor gas product mobility, the method used is flexible piping (called flex-pipe) to bring natural gas to an "outlet" usually on the side of your home. The outlet is equipped with a "quick-connect" valve. With this system, you simply connect your outdoor gas product to the outlet.
